  International Youth Day  is an awareness day designated by the United Nations.  The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth.  The first IYD was seen on August 12, 2000.

International Youth Day is celebrated every year on 12 August.  It is intended as an opportunity for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues around the world.  During International Youth Day, concerts, workshops, cultural events and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world.

International Youth Day was designated by the United Nations in 1999 with the adoption of Resolution 54/120.

International Youth Day 2020 theme

International Youth Day's Slogan for 2014 was Youth and Mental Health. For 2015, it was Youth and Civic Engagement. The theme of the 2016 International Youth Day was “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production."  For 2017, the theme of International Youth Day is "Youth Building Peace". The theme for International Youth Day 2018 was "Safe Spaces for Youth". In this way it will go on which recognises the contributions of young people to preventing conflict, supporting inclusion, social justice, and sustain peace. And for 2019, the theme of IYD is "Transforming education" to make education inclusive and accessible for all youth.

The theme of International Youth Day 2020, “Youth Engagement for Global Action” seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.

As the United Nations turns 75 years old, and with only 10 years left to make the 2030 agenda a reality for all, trust in public institutions is eroding.  Internationally, against the backdrop of an increasingly polarized world, international systems of governance are currently undergoing a crisis of legitimacy and relevance.  In particular, this crisis emphasizes the need to strengthen the capacity of the international system to face challenges and implement solutions to challenges and threats (eg some contemporary contemporary conflicts such as Syria and Myanmar and humanitarian  Includes emergencies, as well as global challenges, such as the outbreak of COVID-19 and climate change).

3. Engagement at the global level.

National Youth Day In India

National Youth Day is celebrated on 12 January as Swami Vivekananda's birthday.  In 1984, the Government of India declared this day as National Youth Day and since 1985 the event is celebrated every year in India.

This was a decision of the Government of India taken in 1984 to celebrate Swami Vivekananda's birthday, i.e. 12 January, every year as National Youth Day.  The Government of India said that 'Swamiji's philosophy and ideals for him and Indian Youth Day can be a great source of inspiration.'

On 12 January 2013, former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in his address at the inauguration of the four-year celebrations of Swami Vivekananda's 150th birth anniversary.

Celebration and activities 

National Youth Day is celebrated on 12 January every year in schools and colleges across India with processions, speeches, music, youth conferences, seminars, yogasanas, presentations, essay-writing, competitions and competitions.  Swami Vivekananda's lectures and writings, drawing inspiration from the Indian spiritual tradition and the broader vision of his guru Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.  These were sources of inspiration and inspired many youth organizations, study circles and service projects involving the youth.
