There are two main pillars of human life - men and women. Both have equal responsibility in building the society and hence both complement each other but from the very beginning there has been a big question mark on the status of women in our society. Everyone talks about their role and responsibility but nobody cares about their position. They have been exploited and abused since the beginning of creation.

Undoubtedly, in the days of the epic era, women were highly respected among the people. Even in the great modern texts, his place remained respectable. The Manusmriti states, "Where women are honoured, God abides" while in the modern era Napoleon Bonaparte said, "The hands that move the cradle rule the world." However, the reality is something else. Women have been kept behind walls for centuries. 'Sati Pratha' is a bitter truth which shows the extent to which our women have been exploited. Child marriage and contemptuous attitude towards widows are other examples of exploitation of women.

Raja Ram Mohan Roy was the first person who raised his voice against these unhealthy systems prevalent in the Indian society. He raised the issue of women and worked hard to end the practice of 'Sati'. It is because of her courageous act that Indian women dared to come out of the purdah. He got education which provided him opportunities to develop himself at every level and with time, he surpassed the men. Today we see women in every field. They are walking shoulder to shoulder in every walk of life.

Apart from teaching school children, women are now pilots, receptionists, police officers, doctors, engineers etc. The rise in the status of women sometimes creates confusion among us whether Sita and Draupadi were born in the same country. The previous situation was due to lack of education but now the spread of education among women has completely changed the scenario. They occupy prominent positions in almost every sphere of the society. Our country is undoubtedly progressing in this way but at times it appears that the extreme risk of women being a suicide bomber is our future.

On one hand, we are still not ready to forget the image of Sita and Savitri and on the other hand, we are tempted to watch overexposed movies on the TV screen with the little kids of our family. Our modern progressive girls are copying very fast fashion which is still not acceptable in our society. As a result, many problems arise in the society. We should allow women to stand on their own but also educate them about our culture and civilization.

This imitation creates problems as the society still stands on controlling the customs which have oppressed only women. Women are controlled, but men who cast their lustful gaze were spared, saying the clothes were too attractive for men to handle.
